Earn While Learn Scheme

Earn While Learn Scheme

Somaiya Vidyavihar University's Earn-While-Learn Scheme, proposed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), seeks to introduce an innovative approach in higher education institutions (HEIs) to assist students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The scheme aims to enable these students to earn and support their education while acquiring skills that enhance their employability. The draft emphasizes the introduction of Earn-While-Learn initiatives to alleviate economic challenges associated with learning and enhance learners' adaptability.

Within this framework, the scheme offers part-time engagement opportunities to students in need, with potential roles including positions as library assistants or interns. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 underscores the importance of addressing challenges faced by students from Socio Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs), aligning with global objectives like Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG-4 (quality education), SDG-5 (gender equality), SDG-1 (no poverty), and SDG-8 (decent work and economic growth).

The Earn-While-Learn (EWL) scheme at Somaiya Vidyavihar University specifically targets SEDG students, aiming to support their education through earnings generated from various activities within the University/Institute(s) library. This engagement is envisioned to equip students with valuable skills, prepare them for future careers, offer hands-on training, fortify their resumes for prospective jobs, enhance networking opportunities, and expose them to diverse challenges to improve adaptability.

Scheme Details: Applications are invited to volunteer for Earn-While-Learn (EWL).
