I am Afsar Ali K. H. Siddiki an Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, K. J. Somaiya College of Science & Commerce, Vidyavihar, Mumbai, India
I am a chemist with interest in “Medicinal Chemistry” relationships in a broad range of scientific problems. My role in the college is to teach and facilitate UG and PG chemistry students for their theory and practical in the subject of Analytical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. Our PG students worked on a small project (423-APD/237/601 of 209) funded by University of Mumbai in the field of Anti-bacterial and Anti-Tubercular Novel Chemical Entities.
I worked with known pharmaceutical industries such as Nycomed pharmaceutical Pvt Ltd (year 2009-10) and MacLeods pharmaceutical Pvt Ltd (year 2015) in their Med Chem and API process development respectively. In case of the former, I have been exposed to synthesis various Novel Chemical Entities based on molecular hybridization techniques (Tetrahydrothiophene derivatives: cannabinoid receptor agonists and their analgesic action) and in the case of later, I have been exposed to various process development of known API molecules such as Febuxostat (used in the treatment of chronic gout and hyperuricemia), Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (treatment of HIV infection), etc.
My academic research (Ph. D.) has been focused on “Design, Synthesis and Anti[1]mycobacterial Studies of Novel Diphenyl Ether Derivatives”. My thesis highlights the various novel structural motifs as well as their biological evaluation. During these research stay, I have acquired adequate experience and expertise in designing, synthesizing, characterization and biological evaluation of novel chemical entities (NCE). I also worked on method development for functional group transformation by using an economical cheap NaNO2 + H2NNH2 (one spot synthesis: amine to azide conversion). Since I have been involved in characterization of NCE, I am well versed with different characterization techniques (MS, IR, 1H and 13C NMR, etc.).
Thus, I am capable of –
· Handling moisture sensitive, air sensitive reactions, handling of various Hazardous and explosive chemicals.
· Designing, Synthesizing, Purifying and Structural elucidation of Novel Chemical Entities (Organic compounds).
· Demonstrating/Explaining the Principle and Instrumentation of MS, IR, UV-VIS, MS, GC, HPLC, 1H-NMR, 13C NMR, LC-MS & GC-MS.
· Doing literature through different search engines like Reaxys, Scopus, Sci-finder, Beilstein and using Chemistry related software’s like ISIS draw & Chem Draw.
· Adapting surrounding (Flexible and adjustable)
