Railway handles over 18000 Bed roll sets EACH DAY, in the trains. Each set has 2 bed-sheets, 1 face towel & 1 Pillow cover. These linen items (supplied to A/c passengers) are first handed over to train attendants (who distribute these, on board) by physically counting each piece & then after completion of journey, receive them back and again physically count each linen item. Any shortage, if observed, is charged to the attendant, hence a physical count has to be carried out. The more intelligent system as against manual counting system is developed for the linen counting for railways. The load cell based counting system was designed and developed. The calibration of the system was carried out with around 4500 linen item of each class.
