Railway coaches are now being fitted with bio-toilets to prevent discharge of human waste in the open. The Indian Railways (IR) experience shows that the fitted bio toilets suffer from blockages owing to passengers throwing waste in the toilet. To create awareness, a motion sensor triggered announcement device, which plays back a recorded appeal message, requesting passengers not to throw litter in the bathroom chute. As soon as a passenger enters the wash-room, the motion sensor should sense the presence & the recorded message should get played back. The powering of the device is through a solar PV module, mounted on the outer side of the coach, without tampering the electrical connection of the coach.
