Improving Technical Communication of PG Students through Blended MOOCs
- Abstract
Technical Communication is an essential quality of a successful engineer. An undergraduate engineering student normally undergoes a course in communication skills where students practice writing and verbal communication skills. However, for postgraduate (PG) students it may not be a compulsory course. The PG students are required to present seminars, write technical papers and thesis individually as a part of their course. The students taking admission to our college come from varied backgrounds of universities, technical knowledge, socioeconomic status and we realized that their communication skills are poor. This paper presents a case study of use of existing IIT BombayX MOOC for understanding fundament aspects of technical communication supported by blended approach for practice. This blended learning gives many advantages to both learner and instructor. The feedback of last two years of students is showing positive results. However, a significant change in their technical communication is yet to be demonstrated.
