  • Abstract

A well - managed successful waste management program me increases the health and environmental quality of the country. Every person on the earth is impacted by the issue of solid waste management, which is a global problem. This survey examines the awareness of preservice teachers on the status of Solid Waste management at a metropolitan city, Mumbai. A self-administered questionnaire was used for primary data collection covering 22 pre-service teachers who were selected based on random sampling. Data was analyzed according to the descriptive statistics. The results revealed that the level of preservice teachers; awareness towards SWM were high, but the extent of implementation of these practices was lower. The majority of preservice teachers (68.2 percent) were aware of solid waste management through various media components. The majority of them (77.3 percent) said they learned about it through social media, while 54.5 percent said it was through television, and 40.9 percent said it was through the newspaper. It can be concluded that the level of awareness greatly influences the extent of implementation of SWM Practices, and it should be consistent so that it can be implemented from the grass root level. This will perhaps lead us towards environmental or SW sustainability.
