  • Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the paradigm of development worldwide due to its rapid transmission from one human to another. COVID-19 vaccination is considered to be the best strategy for curbing the outbreak. Apart from its safety and efficacy, its success highly depends on public acceptance. The present study assessed the knowledge and perception of individuals regarding COVID-19 vaccines using an online-based questionnaire. Participants (n=532) belonging to Mumbai and Thane region enrolled for the study in January 2021. The subjects majorly possessed sound knowledge regarding mode of transmission of COVID-19 virus and its prevention methods. About 39% subjects were reluctant to get vaccinated immediately. Further, 88% subjects felt that greater public awareness was required regarding COVID-19 vaccine. Subjects expressed willingness towards getting vaccinated provided additional studies about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccine were made available (46%) or if their doctors recommended those (29%). Our findings suggest that more effective communication regarding COVID-19 vaccine is needed for increasing its public acceptance.
